
FARIDABAD JANTANTRA TODAY / J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad celebrated its 56th Foundation Day with great zeal and enthusiasm, felicitating students, faculty members, staff, and alumni for their distinguished achievements. The university, which originated in 1969 as an Indo-German diploma institute known as YMCA Institute of Engineering and was upgraded to university status in 2009, marked its 55th year as an institution.
The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh, as the Chief Guest, and Shri S.S. Banga, Industrialist and Social Activist, Managing Director of Victora Industries, as the Guest of Honor. Other eminent guests included Prof. S.L. Saini, Founder President of Haryana Environmental Society; Shri Krishan Singhal, Former DGM, IOCL; Shri Sukhdev Singh, President of YMCA MOB, the alumni association of the University; and Shri Rakesh Sethi, Chairman of Vishwa Prakash Mission, Faridabad. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar presided over the program.
The program commenced with an impressive presentation by Prof. Tilak Raj, Dean of the Institution, on the university’s journey, followed by a documentary showcasing its academic and infrastructural development.
In his address, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar congratulated the university on its foundation day and emphasized the need to enhance the quality of education to global standards, urging students to stay updated with evolving technologies and focus on innovation. He highlighted the convergence of science and engineering due to technological advancements.
Shri S.S. Banga, a well-known environmentalist, shared his significant initiatives in environmental conservation and encouraged the students to actively participate in such efforts.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar underscored the importance of the Foundation Day as an occasion for reflection and strategic planning. He reaffirmed the commitment to developing the university’s second campus on the Faridabad-Gurugram road in village Bhakri and encouraged students to pursue research, emphasizing its value in national development beyond mere employment.
The program also featured addresses by Prof. S.L. Saini and Shri Krishan Singhal, who shared their experiences with the students, and Shri Sukhdev Singh, who apprised the students of the activities conducted by MOB, the Alumni Association.
Earlier, the guests garlanded on the statue of Jagadish Chandra Bose. They also took a round of the exhibition of technical projects displayed by the students. At the end of the program, Registrar Dr. Meha Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.
During the program, several awards were conferred to recognize the significant contributions of faculty members, students, and alumni to the university. Four faculty members—Dr. Anurag Sunda, Dr. Somvir Bajar, Dr. Preet Kaur, and Dr. Sonia Bansal—were honored with the Research Project Grant Award for their exceptional dedication to the field of research. The ‘Star Alumni’ accolade was bestowed upon distinguished alumni Sh. Rajinder Lavasa, Dr. Shrikrishan Yogi, and Sh. Sachin Dev Sharma. Additionally, 11 students were awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal for their academic excellence in 2023, including Neeraj Kumar, Nida Khan, Aryan, Kunal Kumar, Tripti Aggarwal, Akanksha Sharma, Sanchit Sharma, Dhruv, Rahul, Sapna Yadav, and Abhishek.
Outstanding Sportsperson awards were presented to Ms. Kanika Narwat and Prince Chakshu. Ms. Nishu received the Outstanding Performance in Culture Activities award, while Sushil Kumar and Sahil Kaushik were recognized for their Outstanding Performance in Community Services. Yashita Sharma, Yashita Mago, and the members of team Umeed—Tarun, Harsh, and Vansh, along with their mentors—were honored with the Outstanding Innovation Awards.
To mark the occasion, students from various clubs presented a series of cultural programs, including dance, drama, and yoga demonstrations, which were highly appreciated by all attendees. The program was meticulously organized by the office of Dean Student Welfare under the supervision of Dr. Munish Vashishth.
